What is Prime upscaler in Claid and how do I use it?
What is Prime?
🔥 Prime is Claid's most realistic upscaler. It boosts image resolution and sharpness while preserving the textures that make photos look like photos — fabric grain, skin detail, product labels, and fine print.
Prime is built on a new architecture designed specifically for texture preservation. Unlike older upscalers that either leave images soft or over-process them (smoothing out details and introducing artifacts), Prime delivers sharp, clear results that still look like real photographs.
It's now the default upscaler in the Improve quality tab.
Where to find Prime in Claid Studio
Improve quality tab
Go to the Improve quality tab in Claid Studio. Prime is already selected as the default — just upload an image and you're ready to go.
AI Fashion
When you generate a fashion photo at default resolution (1MP), you'll see an Improve quality button in the top action panel. Tap it and Prime runs at 2×, bringing your result to 2K/2MP.
💡 If you need higher resolution from the start, AI Fashion also offers native 2K and 4K generation modes — no separate upscale step needed.
How to use Prime
In the Improve quality tab
- Upload your image
- Go to the Improve quality tab (Prime is already selected)
- Choose your output size: 2×, 4×, or set custom dimensions (width × height in pixels or %)
- Click Process
- Download your enhanced image
In AI Fashion
- Go to AI Fashion Models
- Generate a fashion photo (default 1MP mode)
- Tap Improve quality in the top action panel
- Prime runs at 2×, and your output is now 2K/2MP
Choosing between Prime and Gentle
Prime is the right choice for almost every image — photography, product shots, fashion, portraits, lifestyle images, and even digital art and illustrations.
However, Prime is an AI-powered enhancer, which means it actively improves your image. In rare cases, you may prefer an upscaler that makes almost no visible changes.
| Prime | Gentle |
|---|---|---|
Best for | Most images — product, fashion, portrait, lifestyle, digital art | Images that just need to be bigger without visible quality changes |
What it does | Enhances clarity, sharpness, and resolution while preserving textures | Makes minimal changes — subtly improves quality |
When to use | You want your image to look its best | You need to meet a size requirement without altering the image |
💡 Note: Gentle was previously called "Text" in the UI. During the transition period, you may see it labeled Gentle (Text) before it becomes simply Gentle.
Credit costs
The number of credits Prime uses depends on your output size:
Output size | Credits |
|---|---|
Up to 4MP | 1 |
4–9MP | 2 |
9–36MP | 6 |
36–128MP | 10 |
Maximum output resolution by plan:
- Pro: up to 128MP
- Essentials: up to 64MP
Prime is available on all plans, including free trial credits.
Tips & Tricks 🪄
- Just upload and go. Prime is tuned for the optimal balance automatically — pick your output size and get the result. No manual settings to tweak.
- Use Prime as a finishing step. A great workflow: generate a product scene or on-model shot with AI Photoshoot or AI Fashion, then run Prime for a final quality boost. It works beautifully as the last step in your pipeline.
- Combine with other tools. You can remove a background, generate a new scene, and then enhance the final composite with Prime — all within Claid Studio.
- Preserving small text and labels. When upscaling images with small text, fine labels, or intricate patterns, try setting a higher target resolution. Aiming for 2–8MP output tends to give the best balance for detail-heavy images. If small details still get altered, try increasing the resolution first. Fall back to Gentle only if the issue persists.
- Legacy upscalers are still available. If you had workflows built around the previous models (General, Places, People, Digital Art), you can still find them under the expandable Legacy upscalers section in the Improve quality tab.
FAQ 🙋🏼♀️
What makes Prime different from the previous upscalers?
Prime uses a completely new architecture built for texture preservation. The older models either under-process (leaving images soft) or over-process (smoothing textures and introducing artifacts). Prime hits the balance — clear, sharp results that still look like photographs.
Is Prime available on all plans?
Yes. Prime is available on Free (within trial credits), Essentials, and Pro plans. The maximum output resolution differs by plan: 64MP on Essentials, 128MP on Pro.
How many credits does Prime cost?
Between 1 and 10 credits, depending on your output size. Small outputs (under 4MP) cost just 1 credit. See the credit costs table above for the full breakdown.
What types of images does Prime work best with?
Prime is optimized for photography and performs well across product shots, fashion, portraits, and lifestyle images. It also handles digital art and illustrations nicely. For images that just need to be bigger without any visible quality changes, use Gentle.
Can I use Prime with other Claid tools?
Absolutely. Common workflows include generating an on-model shot with AI Fashion and then running Prime for a final polish, or removing a background, generating a new scene, and enhancing the composite.
What does the "Improve quality" button in AI Fashion do?
When you generate a fashion photo at default resolution (1MP), this button appears in the top action panel. Tapping it runs Prime at 2×, bringing your result to 2K/2MP. For higher resolution without a separate step, try AI Fashion's native 2K and 4K generation modes.
When should I use Gentle instead of Prime?
Use Gentle when you need to enlarge an image without any visible quality modification — for example, when an image is already good but needs to meet a platform's size requirement. Gentle makes the most conservative changes possible.
Is Prime available via API?
Not yet, but it's coming soon. API availability will be announced separately.
